Capacity-building for fish farmer's livelihoods in Hilly Region

The ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Government of Sikkim, and Hemnagar Sundarban Dream, West Bengal, conducted a two-day capacity development and aquaculture input distribution program for fish farmers in the hilly region at Mirik (West Bengal) and Gangtok (Sikkim), under the STC, SCSP and NEH Schemes, on 20th-21st February 2024.

The programme discussed scientific fish farming, species diversification, feed management, disease management, and reporting fish diseases using the ReportFisDisease app. Beneficiaries received aquaculture inputs like high-value food fish seeds, fish feed, and ornamental aquaculture FRP tanks.

The Department of Fisheries officials from the Government of Sikkim attended the sensitization and input distribution programs.

A total of 120 fish farmers of Mirik and Gangtok participated in the programme.
