Capacity Building Programme for Extension Officials

ICAR- National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Regional Centre, Kolkata organised a 2-day Capacity Building Programme of Extension Officials (24th-25th July 2024) in collaboration with ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jhargram, West Bengal under the Pilot Project on Crop Diversification.  The programme aimed to suggest crop diversification plans in rice-fallow lands mainly or the lands where rice crop is marginally suitable and not suitable. These lands will be brought under alternative and profitable crops/ cropping systems while preferences will be given to pulses and oilseed crops.

Scientists from ICAR-NBSS, LUP, and ICAR-KVK conducted a training programme on crop diversification and introduced new crops like pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, and floriculture, focusing on soil testing, nutrient, pest, and disease management. The programme aimed to improve farmers' income and livelihood promotion, with field visits following the lecture series.

About 20 extension personnel participated in the programme.
