Delegation of Maharashtra Cooperative Sugar Mill visited ICAR-IISR, Lucknow

A 14-member delegation of Rena Sahkari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., Latur led by Shri Trimbakrao Bhise,, MLA, Maharashtra State Assembly visited ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow today to review the  factors responsible for the highest ever production of sugarcane and sugar in Uttar Pradesh. The delegation included Sh. Sarjrao J. More, Vice Chairman; Sh. Chandra Kant Patil, Director and other Board of Directors/members of the mill.

While interacting with the scientists and visiting the technology park of sugarcane and laboratories & engineering workshops of the Institute, Shri Bhise appreciated the on-going sugarcane research and development works being done by the Institute particularly on mechanization of sugarcane agriculture in view of labour scarcity and enhancing the income of farmers in the country. He urged to demonstration of these machines particularly Ratoon Management Device (RMD) in sugarcane growing areas of Latur in Maharashtra, so that its benefits may be shown to the farmers of the area and also for its wider adoption in sugarcane cultivation.

Dr. S.N. Singh, Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer, ICAR-IISR Biological Control Centre, Pravaranagar (Maharashtra informed that Uttar Pradesh has surpassed national average sugarcane yield and state recorded 72.4 t/ha cane yield during 2016-17. He further told that even by March 31, 2018, Uttar Pradesh by producing 105.13 lakh tonnes of sugar has surpassed Maharashtra with 101.30 lakh tonnes. This year, the country has attained a new height in sugar production by producing about 30 million tonnes.
