Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) laid the foundation stone of Livestock Research Centre (LRC) building at SRS of ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute to commemorate the Foundation Day of ICAR-NDRI here today. He was accompanied by Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Chairman, ASRB, Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science & Animal Science), Dr. Ashok Kumar, Assistant Director General (AH), ICAR and Dr. R.R.B. Singh, Director,ICAR- NDRI. As a part of Green NDRI initiative, the dignitaries planted the tree saplings at the premises of LRC.
On the occasion of 96th Foundation Day of the Institute a National Seminar on “Promotion of Dairy Entrepreneurship and Skill Development for Doubling Farmers’ Income” was also organised.
Dr. Mohapatra, while inaugurating the seminar, stressed on the importance of developing need-based technologies and appropriate communication systems understandable by the clientele system. Director General, ICAR also reiterated that NDRI must focus on research pertaining to the indigenous breeds and dairy products.
Dr. A.K. Srivastava, Chairman, ASRB, in Foundation Day Lecture delineated the status, prospects and challenges of dairy sector in India.
Dr J.K. Jena, DDG (FS&AS), Dr Ashok Kumar, ADG (AH), Dr Mrutyunjaya, former Directo,r NAIP and Dr R.R.B. Singh, Director, ICAR-NDRI (Deemed University), Karnal also graced the inaugural function.
The inaugural function was followed by three technical sessions namely, ‘Scope and opportunities for doubling farmers’ income through dairying’, ‘Dairy production and processing technologies for commercial dairying’ and ‘Policy interventions for dairy entrepreneurship development’.
Dr R.R.B. Singh, Director, ICAR- NDRI, in his concluding remarks stated that there are plenty of opportunities for entrepreneurship in the field of dairying and that institutes like NDRI should pave the way to facilitate more and more entrepreneurs to take up dairy business.

More than 300 persons participated in the event.
