Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Participates in Interactive Session at ICAR-NAARM

Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, participated in the Interactive Session held at ICAR-NAARM today.

During the session, Shri Shekhawat accentuated that the government’s priority is for making the agriculture profitable by reducing the input cost and increasing the remunerative prices for enhancing the farmers’ income. The Minister strongly said that by listening to the stakeholders will help in enhancing the government’s functioning and decision making process.

Shri Shekhawat also had an interactive meeting with the farmers, farmer associations, scientists of all the ICAR Institutes located at Hyderabad, officials, students, start-ups and State Agri-Allied Sector Universities, etc.

He highlighted that the market infrastructure, farmer centric crop insurance, Minimum Support Price, support to organic farming including input cost, organic produce market; area based drip irrigation subsidy considering the climatic factors, promotion of integrated farming system, inclusion of agriculture in MNREGA, FPO promotion, village agri-clinics, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, etc., are the issues that prove helpful in making the agriculture to be profitable. Besides this, they are also helpful to intensify the awareness among the farmers about the various government schemes.

The Minister also released a NAARM Hindi publication titled “AgRIM” during the occasion.

In his welcome address, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM underlined the various Central Governments’ schemes and briefed about their benefits for the farming community.

The Director also urged the participants for providing the suggestions on the programme and new programmes too for enhancing the farmers’ income.

Dr. S.K. Soam, Joint Director, ICAR-NAARM proposed his vote of thanks.

More than 350 farmers, scientists, officers, faculty and students, etc., participated in the programme.
