“There is a need for technological help and forage seed availability to improve the fodder availability from the available arable and non-arable lands to fulfil the minimal requirements of farmers”, stressed the Chief Guest of the occasion, Dr. Arun Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, Bihar. Dr. Kumar was delivering the inauguration address of the “Virtual Training Programme for Gaushalas on Fodder Production, Utilization and Conservation” jointly organized by the ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, Bihar from 27th to 28th July, 2021.
The need of technological support from the ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi for the fodder production on bunds, submerged & Diara lands and the grasses to stabilize the banks of water bodies was also emphasized in the Vice-Chancellor’s address.
Dr. R.K. Sohane, Director Extension, Bihar Agriculture University, Bihar; Dr. R.N. Singh, Deputy Director Extension, Bihar Agriculture University, Bihar; Dr. A.K. Roy, Project Coordinator, ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Fodder Crops and the Scientists of ICAR-IGFRI and BAU, Bihar also participated in the programme.
Earlier, in his address, Dr. Amaresh Chandra, Director, ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh outlined the technologies developed relevant to the Gaushala and the Institute activities. The need for adopting round the year fodder production technologies & strategies and conservation of fodder in the form of silage, etc., was stressed in Dr. Chandra’s address.
The programme was aimed at imparting the skills to the Gaushala Keepers and Livestock Owners / Farmers of Bihar and the adjoining states on improved fodder production and utilization techniques, maintenance of animal health and making them self-reliant to meet their expenses through production and marketing of eco-friendly livestock production.
The training programme registered a total participation by more than 100 Farmers, Gaushala Representatives from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
