Webinar on “Science, Society and Exponential Change: Re-imagining the Future” organized

The Education Division of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi organized a Webinar on Science, Society and Exponential Change: Re-imagining the Future” today.

In his address, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) stated about the initiation of the use of many exponential disruptive technologies in Agriculture by the ICAR. He emphasized that the Council is keeping pace with the latest technologies. Dr. Mohapatra accentuated on the development of the guidelines for the use of the Drones in Agriculture.

Dr. R.C. Agrawal, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), ICAR highlighted the participants about the articulation of the advisories under the facets of Curricula delivery through e-learning; Implementation of Student READY Programme;  rescheduling of Academic Session - 2020-21; conduct of ICAR-All India Entrance Examination for Admission (ICAR-AIEEA); Examinations and Evaluation; Students Research and its Evaluation, etc. Dr. Agrawal stated about the organization of more such webinars for the benefit of the Agricultural Universities through the virtual mode.

Dr. Pratibha Jolly, Former Principal, Miranda House College, Delhi University, Delhi emphasized that the transformative changes in the educational ecosystem will hold the key to the future. She stressed that the crisis due to the outbreak of the Pandemic has brought to fore the strong dependence on the manifold of digital technologies. Dr. Jolly accentuated that underpinning the new ways of doing things is the spectacular evolution of computing power that is irrevocably changing the structure of organizations and business alike.

She emphasized on the rapid diffusion of technological tools and services, digital transformation and progression to a highly networked and knowledge-based society that is now clearly discernible to the society at large. Dr. Jolly stressed on having a paradigm shift from “A college is an Institution that exists to provide Instructions” to “A college is an Institution that exists to produce learning”.

More than 150 participants representing the Vice-Chancellors of Agricultural Universities, Faculties, DDGs and ADGs of ICAR, Directors of ICAR Institutes, Scientists and Students participated in the Webinar.
