9th - 13th September 2024, Mumbai
ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education organised a 5-day (9th-13th September 2024) special exposure-cum-training for Odisha departmental officers on nutrition and feed management in aquaculture pond practices.
The programme was inaugurated, and the training manual was released by Dr Ravishankar C.N., Director, ICAR-CIFE and Dr N.P. Sahu, Joint Director, ICAR-CIFE.
Dr Ravishank highlighted that feed is the most critical and important input constituting 60–70% of the recurring cost in aquaculture, and India has a long way to go in feed based aquaculture to increase the fish production per unit area.
Dr Sahu urged the participants to advise the farmers to prepare the farm made feed by using locally available feed ingredients.
The experts delivered lectures on nutrient requirements of commercial food and ornamental fish, cost-effective feed formulations, and feed management in high-density fish culture like RAS, bifloc, cage and pen culture in addition to pond fish culture.
A total of 12 practical demonstrations were conducted, showcasing advanced feed production technologies for creating floating, sinking, and semi-sinking feeds for fish and shrimp. In addition to these demonstrations, trainees attended 10 theory classes focused on feed testing and quality assurance. A field visit to a shrimp culture farm was also organized to provide trainees with a deeper understanding of feeding management and the overall culture process.
About 20 departmental officers from Odisha participated in the programme.
