The ICAR-Indian Institute of Millets Research, Hyderabad virtually celebrated its “6th Foundation Day” today.
In her inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Jacqueline d’Arros Hughes, Director General, ICRISAT delivered the Foundation Day address on “Challenges and Opportunities in addressing food and nutrition security in Semi-Arid Tropics”. She highlighted the importance of Millets in the future, Government of India’s support for the Millets and the way forward to strengthen the collaboration between the ICAR-IIMR and ICRISAT for maximizing the revenue of the millions of Millets farmers in India and globally with minimum input.
The Chief Guest also felicitated the Best Staff of the Biennial Year - 2019-20 of all categories with the Certificates of Appreciation during the occasion.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Vilas A. Tonapi, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Hyderabad emphasized on the Institute’s role in the past and future. He also presented the roadmap of the forthcoming celebrations on the occasion of International Year of Millets in 2023 declared by the United Nations.
A book on “Sorghum in the 21st Century: Food - Fodder - Feed - Fuel for a Rapidly Changing World” was also released during the occasion.
The Institute also virtually signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the DHAN Foundation, Madurai for Developing Millets Processing Machinery. The MoU includes joint development, co-branding and marketing of Small Millets Primary Processing Machines of portable and table top models.
