Interface Programme on Coconut and Arecanut

A series of interface programmes are being organized by CPCRI in collaboration with Department of Horticulture and KVKs, Developmental officials and the farmers of Karnataka on the technological options to address the problems faced by the coconut and arecanut farmers.

Shri Ramanatha Rai, Minister for Forest and Environment, Govt. of Karnataka inaugurated the programme at Sullia, Dakshina Kannada District on 27 August, 2013. He emphasized that adoption of scientific method of cultivation is the only long-term solution to address the problems faced by arecanut growers in the region. Farmers should adopt the technologies developed by CPCRI to make farming profitable. Shri Angara,   MLA, Sullia Constituency urged the farmers to follow the scientific cultivation practices.

At Brahmavar, Udupi district, while inaugurating the programme on 24 August. Shri Pramod Madhwaraj, Udupi MLA urged farmers to adopt innovative technologies developed by CPCRI like virgin coconut oil, coconut chips, coconut neera, sugar etc. to improve the livelihood of coconut farmers.

Dr. George V. Thomas, Director, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kasaragod and Heads of Divisions presented various crop improvement, production, protection, processing and value addition technologies developed by the Institute. Deputy Directors of Horticulture Department, Govt. of Karnataka presented development programmes. Over 150 farmers participated in the interface programme.
