ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology organised a 53-day in-plant training programme for the final year students of Bachelor of Fisheries Science from the College of Fisheries, Assam Agricultural University, Raha, from 6th August-27th September 2024 under the Rural Entrepreneurship Awareness Development Yojana (READY) initiative of ICAR. The training programme, aimed to provide comprehensive exposure to students in fish harvest and post-harvest technologies. Various theoretical and practical sessions were conducted by resource persons in different divisions of ICAR-CIFT. In addition to classroom learning, the participants visited prominent industries and institutions.
Dr George Ninan, Director, ICAR-CIFT, highlighted the importance of such practical training in shaping future fishing professionals.
The Chief Guest for the valedictory function, Dr Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai, awarded the training certificates to the participants.
Institutional visits included ICAR-CMFRI, NIFPHATT, MPEDA, and the Export Inspection Agency (EIA) at Kochi. To further enhance their understanding, they also toured the College of Agriculture (Kerala Agricultural University) in Thrissur and the KVK in Kumarakom.
