Skill Development Training for Rural Women on Backyard Poultry

ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management organized a 3-day skill development training programme on ‘Backyard Poultry Management’ under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan in collaboration with the Centre for Continuing Veterinary Education and Communication, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati, AP, for SC women from 24th-26th July 2024.

Delivering the valedictory address, Dr. Ch. Srilatha, Director Extension, emphasised introducing improved backyard poultry varieties, as well as scientific skill development for farmers in feeding, housing, disease prevention and management, will increase rural farmers' income and living standards.

Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Principal Scientist and Chairman, SCSP, discussed the implementation of the SCSP programme and educated the trainees on successful backyard poultry farming.

15 Aseel chicks (two months old), water, and a feeder were distributed to the trainees during the valedictory session.

The programme educated women on backyard poultry rearing, providing them with theoretical and practical experience in Poultry Management, common diseases observed in poultry, and their management.

About 34 Scheduled Caste women farmers participated in the programme.
