ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute organised the second phase of a 9-day training programme entitled enhancing farm profitability through scientific management of IFS and secondary agriculture (Phase-II) from  24th-26th September 2024.

Dr L.K. Baishya, Campus In-Charge, ICAR-IARI, emphasized that a key outcome of this initiative will be the creation of location-specific scientific Integrated Farming System (IFS) models, demonstrated through a participatory approach involving farmers.

The second phase of the training program was inaugurated by Shri Ghanshyam Dutta, Sub-Divisional Officer, Narayanpur, North Lakhimpur, Assam. He discussed about the commitment to advancing scientific Integrated Farming System (IFS) models through a participatory approach involving farmers in the North Lakhimpur district.

Experts from various disciplines provided valuable lectures covering topics such as soil nutrient management, rice cultivation, horticulture, and animal husbandry, as well as fishery-based IFS practices. Additionally, the training included secondary agriculture practices like mushroom cultivation, beekeeping (apiary), floriculture, post-harvest management, and energy gardening.

The valedictory session was addressed by Ms Bhagyashree Deka, Block Development Officer of Boginadi.

During the valedictory function, some important essential inputs and training manuals have been distributed to the farmers.

Throughout the training programme, participants demonstrated active engagement and a keen interest in adopting various forms of integrated farming systems within their existing operations.

The phase primarily benefited 52 farmers from the Boginadi block of North Lakhimpur District, Assam.
