ICAR- National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, organized a 2-day Skill Development Training Programme on ‘Vermicompost production Technology’ for scheduled caste farmers under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan at ICAR-KVK, Dakshina Kannada Mangalore, Karnataka on 21st-22nd February 2024
Dr. M. Balakrishnan, Principal Scientist & Chairman SCSP, ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad, highlighted the benefits of vermicomposting for soil health and crop yields. He urged the farmers to incorporate stubbles into the soil to boost organic carbon percentage. Dr. Balakrishnan recommended integrating nutrient management practices like vermicomposting, neem cake, and bio inoculants for farmers, emphasising the importance of implementing these practices for improved income and healthier living.
Dr. T. J. Ramesha, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, Mangalore briefed about the various programs undertaken by the KVK for the benefit of the farming community and highlighted the importance of using Vermicompost in agriculture for getting quality produce and improve soil health.
In the valedictory session, portable vermicompost units and earthworms were distributed to the participants.
The farmers participated in all sessions and were educated on various aspects of Enriched Vermicomposting production.
A total of 30 farmers from Sullia taluk, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka participated and benefited from the programme.
