Shri Arjun Munda, Union Minister of Tribal Affairs and Agriculture and  Farmers’ Welfare visited ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Garh Khatanga, Ranchi today. He was accompanied by Shri Sanjay Seth, Member of Parliament, Ranchi Loksabha Constituency

Union Minister highlighted the challenges of agriculture for food and nutritional security especially under rainfed condition of Jharkhand & adjoining areas and the increased responsibilities of the scientists & supporting staffs of ICAR-IIAB. He showed his trust that ICAR-IIAB, Ranchi will take pivotal role in addressing these issues for sustainable development of agriculture and enhancing the livelihood of farming communities. The Minister said that farmers not only support their families but also contributes to the agricultural economy of the country. He highlighted the government’s priority to ensure prosperity of farmers and development of agriculture. While asserting that India is now not only a self-sufficient nation in food producing but also an exporter. He stressed on the production of nutritionally superior and pesticide residue free food especially by exploring the potential of organic and natural farming in the region.

Shri Munda reviewed the various activities of the Institute for better agricultural production.

Shri Seth highlighted the success of producing sufficient food grain for the nation and distribution to masses under different programme runs by Central Govt.

Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Director, ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ranchi briefed about the recent achievements and activities of the Institute.

The Institute is working towards harnessing the potential of microbial biotechnology in an integrated manner to accelerate the pace of agricultural growth.
