Awareness programme on major fish diseases and the popularisation of the ReportFishDisease App in Jharkhand by ICAR-NBFGR, Lucknow

ICAR- National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow in collaboration with the Directorate of Fisheries, Jharkhand, organised an awareness programme about major fish diseases and the popularisation of the ReportFishDisease (RFD) App at the Fish Farmer Training Centre, Dhurwa, Ranchi, today, under the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD), funded by the Department of Fisheries, Government of India.

Shri Amrendra Kumar, Director, Fisheries, inaugurated the programme and emphasised the need for timely reporting of fish diseases to minimise the disease-associated losses. He also informed that the State Fisheries Department, Jharkhand, has been apprising the farmers about the use of the RFD app in each training programme.

The participants were addressed on the risks of diseases arising from the intensification and diversification of aquaculture. The importance of using the ReportFishDisease app for quick reporting of diseases was also emphasized. The participants were apprised of major finfish diseases, their clinical signs, and management measures. Disease management in pangas culture during winter months was explained, and the use of the RFD app for timely disease reporting was demonstrated.

A total of 279 fish farmers from 12 districts attended the programme, including 219 male and 60 female participants.
