The initiative aims to develop a technically proficient workforce capable of effectively implementing artificial insemination services across the state. By strengthening practical skills and diagnostic capabilities, the programme seeks to accelerate genetic improvement of sheep and goats, promote sustainable breed development, and encourage scientific small ruminant husbandry practices at the field level.

The training curriculum focuses on estrus synchronization protocols, scientific semen handling and preservation, and hands-on artificial insemination techniques to improve conception rates and overall flock productivity, thereby enhancing farmers’ incomes.

Emphasizing the significance of the effort, Dr. Arun Kumar Tomar, Director, ICAR-CSWRI, stated, ‘Artificial insemination in sheep and goats offers tremendous scope for rapid genetic progress and higher productivity. Its effective implementation depends on well-trained field professionals. Through this capacity-building initiative, the institute is committed to strengthening reproductive management services and ensuring that advanced technologies benefit farmers, particularly in remote and smallholder systems.’
