ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa conducted a two-days Training on ‘Diversified Farming for Sustainable Income’ at ICAR-CCARI, Goa from 23 to 24 April, 2026. The programme was conducted under Institute Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) with the aim of enhancing livelihood opportunities for Scheduled Caste farmers through improved and scientific crop, horticulture, livestock, poultry and fish farming practices.
The training program encompassed a blend of instructive theoretical lectures, informative practical field visits and demonstrations in institute’s dairy, poultry, piggery, fishery, goat and buffalo farms facilitated by scientists and the project staff of ICAR-CCARI, Goa. Visit was also made in Livestock waste valorisation system where the farmers were given demonstration on production of Phosphate Rich Organic Manure (PROM) and Jeevamrut. In addition, the farmers also visited the Vermi-compost unit where they were demonstrated the procedure of making vermi-compost.
Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, Goa in his address, emphasized balanced fertilizer use and advised farmers to adopt judicious application of chemical fertilizers by using only the minimum required. He also educated farmers about sustainable agricultural practices that can improve soil fertility, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, and maintain long-term soil health, while encouraging a gradual shift towards the use of biofertilizers.

Dr Kuldeep K. Lal, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai also graced the occasion and urged all the farmers to make use of the knowledge gained during the training programme for enhancing their income and livelihood. In addition to the lectures and field demonstrations, the event also included the distribution of inputs like plastic utility crates, vermicompost, planting materials and Jeevamrut.
A total of 35 farmers including 24 Scheduled Caste farmers, with 15 women and 20 men from Kapshi, Kolhapur (Maharashtra) participated enthusiastically in the training.
