Fish farmers from East Champaran, Bihar received training on scientific aquaculture at ICAR-CIFE Kolkata Centre

7 July 2026, Kolkata

A skill development training programme was organized at ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kolkata Centre during 1-7 July 2026 for the 30 progressive fish farmers of East Champaran, Bihar. The training programme was organized in joint collaboration with Department of Fishery, Dairy and Animal Husbandry, Govt of Bihar.

In the training programme farmers were made aware about the different modern aquaculture techniques like Biofloc, RAS, Aquaponics, pearl farming etc. Besides, other important topics like induced breeding and carp culture, ornamental fish breeding and culture, feeding management, disease management, soil & water quality management, fish processing etc. were also covered.

Hands on training on water quality analysis using ICAR-CIFE water testing kits, fish feed preparation, breeding of carps were also arranged in practical session. Field visit to different farms, fish seed market at Naihati and visit to integrated fish farming unit at SSKVK, Sonarpur were also organized for the farmers during the 7 days programme.

Farmers were highly satisfied and motivated after the completion of the training and gave positive feedback. They were also determined to adopt new technologies which they learnt during the programme. CIFE pH and ammonia kit, training certificates were distributed at the end of the training.
