ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, organized a one-day training programme on Scientific Methods of Cultivation of Dragon Fruit at ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, today. The programme was aimed at promoting dragon fruit cultivation as a profitable horticultural enterprise by equipping farmers with scientific knowledge and improved production technologies.
The training featured a comprehensive technical session covering key aspects of dragon fruit cultivation, including the selection of suitable varieties, climatic and soil requirements, propagation methods, land preparation, planting techniques, installation of support structures, nutrient and irrigation management, training and pruning, flowering and fruiting behaviour, integrated pest and disease management, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and marketing opportunities. Special emphasis was laid on the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to enhance productivity, improve fruit quality, and increase farm profitability.
The programme was attended by 20 farmers, rural youth, and aspiring entrepreneurs from different parts of Goa. Participants actively engaged in the interactive sessions, appreciated the scientific and practical approach of the training, and expressed keen interest in adopting dragon fruit cultivation as a high-value horticultural enterprise to diversify and enhance their farm income.
