As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers (BUF), the ICAR–National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, in collaboration with IFFCO, organized a day-long workshop on “Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Science-Based Nutrition” at Daulatabad, Sangareddy district, Telangana.
The workshop aimed to create awareness among farmers on balanced fertilizer use, soil test-based nutrient management, science-based nutrition, and sustainable agricultural practices for improving soil health, enhancing crop productivity, and ensuring long-term farm prosperity.
Shri Shiva Prasad Korrapati, Joint Director, Agriculture, Sangareddy District, Telangana, interacted with the participants and appreciated the efforts of ICAR- NAARM and IFFCO in promoting sustainable nutrient management among farmers. He also explained the role of IFFCO products, including Nano Urea and Nano DAP, in enhancing nutrient use efficiency and reducing excessive fertilizer application.

The programme commenced with an overview of the importance of judicious fertilizer use and the need for adopting scientific nutrient management practices to support sustainable agriculture.
A technical session on Soil Test-Based Fertilizer Application emphasized the critical role of soil testing in determining crop nutrient requirements. Experts demonstrated how balanced and site-specific fertilizer recommendations can improve soil fertility, increase nutrient-use efficiency, and enhance crop productivity while reducing unnecessary fertilizer use.
Participants were also informed about innovative fertilizer technologies, including nano fertilizers, and their role in improving nutrient-use efficiency, reducing input costs, and supporting sustainable crop production. The session highlighted the contribution of products such as Nano Urea and Nano DAP in achieving balanced crop nutrition and minimizing excessive fertilizer application.
The programme featured interactions with farmers and local stakeholders, who appreciated the efforts being undertaken to promote sustainable nutrient management and scientific farming practices. Progressive farmers shared their experiences of adopting improved agricultural technologies and balanced fertilizer application, highlighting the positive impacts on crop performance and farm income.
A special session showcased various initiatives related to science-based nutrition and sustainable agricultural development. The role of scientific interventions and technological innovations in enhancing agricultural productivity while conserving natural resources was highlighted.
The keynote session focused on the objectives of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan and the importance of science-based nutrition in ensuring food security, environmental sustainability, and farmer prosperity. Farmers were encouraged to adopt soil test-based nutrient management practices and make effective use of innovative fertilizer technologies for long-term agricultural sustainability.

As part of the programme, quality paddy seeds, medicinal plant saplings, and other planting materials were distributed to participating farmers. The initiative aimed to promote improved agricultural practices, encourage crop diversification, support conservation of medicinal plant resources, and strengthen sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion and a strong message emphasizing balanced fertilizer use, soil health management, nano fertilizers, and science-based nutrition as key components of sustainable agriculture. Participants appreciated the opportunity for knowledge exchange and interaction with experts.
The programme successfully enhanced awareness among farmers regarding balanced fertilizer use, soil health restoration, nutrient-use efficiency, and sustainable farming practices. It also served as an effective platform for strengthening linkages among researchers, extension agencies, industry representatives, and farming communities to promote resilient and sustainable agricultural development.
More than 150 farmers, scientists, extension personnel, industry representatives, and development stakeholders participated in the programme.
