As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, the ICAR–National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, Mau, Uttar Pradesh, organized a farmer awareness and extension programme at Mathiya village in Pardaha Block, Mau district, to promote sustainable soil health management through the use of beneficial microorganisms.
The programme aimed to enhance farmers' understanding of the crucial role of agriculturally important microorganisms in maintaining soil fertility, improving crop productivity, and promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices. The initiative also emphasized the adoption of climate-resilient and resource-efficient agricultural technologies for ensuring long-term farm productivity.

During the technical sessions, scientists from ICAR-NBAIM highlighted the importance of integrated nutrient management, periodic soil testing, and the use of microbial-based bio-inputs to improve nutrient availability and crop performance. Farmers were sensitized to the role of beneficial microorganisms in enhancing nutrient-use efficiency, improving soil health, and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
As part of the extension programme, participating farmers were provided with Bio-Phos, a phosphate-solubilizing microbial bioformulation developed by ICAR-NBAIM. Scientists demonstrated its application and explained how the formulation converts insoluble forms of phosphorus present in the soil into plant-available nutrients, thereby improving phosphorus uptake and supporting sustainable nutrient management.
The programme witnessed active participation from 40 farmers, including 25 women and 15 men, reflecting the growing interest of farming communities in adopting eco-friendly technologies for sustainable agricultural development.
