A workshop of FPO members -Scientists -progressive farmers organized at ICAR RCER, FSRCHPR Ranchi during 12-13 June, 2026 under the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan. The aim of the workshop was to create awareness among FPO members and motivate them towards the adoption of balanced fertilizer use, sustainable agricultural practices, value addition, branding, and marketing of agricultural produce.
The Chief Guest, Dr S.C. Dubey, VC, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi in his address, emphasized the importance of soil fertility in enhancing agricultural productivity. He advocated the adoption of integrated nutrient management practices, including green manuring, vermicomposting/composting, seed treatment with Trichoderma and Rhizobium (in legumes), balanced fertilizer application, use of agricultural lime, and soil conservation measures. He also advised farmers to follow scientific advisories to mitigate the anticipated drought situation during Kharif 2026.

Shri Gopal Tiwari, Special Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperation, Government of Jharkhand, highlighted that nearly 60 % of Jharkhand’s agricultural land is vulnerable to degradation due to indiscriminate use of urea. He encouraged the formation of FPOs covering clusters of 5–10 villages and urged farmers to benefit from government schemes such as Crop Insurance and Kisan Credit Card while adopting climate-resilient farming, crop diversification, balanced nutrient management, and processing of produce.
A series of technical lectures were delivered by the experts during the workshop on factors influencing the performance of FPOs, role of FPOs in technology dissemination, NABARD schemes for FPOs, licenses for fertilizers, pesticides etc.

An exhibition showcasing promising technologies and enterprises, including integrated nutrient management, biofertilizers, geen manures, vegetable soybean, offseason sem, grafted tomato, pointed gourd, mushroom cultivation, mango production, drones, and insect traps, was also organized for the participants.
Field visits to Integrated Farming System model and other demonstration units of the centre were conducted. Participants were provided saplings of mango, guava, and litchi, along with vegetable seeds. In addition, two manual paddy transplanters were distributed to two women self-help groups to reduce drudgery, address labour shortages, and improve operational efficiency.
A total of 102 participants joined the workshop including members of 18 FPOs.
