ICAR-IISWC, Dehradun Organises Gram Pradhan Sammelan and Kisan Gosthi under Nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan–2026 in Kalsi Block

ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun organized a Gram Pradhan Sammelan in Kalsi block of Dehradun under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) to promote balanced fertilization and soil health management.

During the programme, participants were sensitized to the importance of balanced fertilization in field crops through the integrated use of farmyard manure, compost, crop residue recycling, biofertilizers, waste decomposers, and the judicious application of chemical fertilizers. The discussions highlighted the role of integrated nutrient management in improving soil health, reducing the cost of cultivation, and safeguarding human health.

Subsequently, a Kisan Gosthi on balanced fertilization was organized in Fateau village of Kalsi block. Farmers were informed about the activities being implemented under the Tribal Sub-Plan and various soil and water conservation measures. The benefits of adopting organic and natural farming practices, particularly for vegetable cultivation in the hilly regions, were also discussed.

The participants emphasized the importance of community participation in promoting sustainable agricultural practices in the tribal areas of Uttarakhand. The programme brought together Panchayat leaders (Gram Pradhans), farmers, and scientists to deliberate on practical solutions for improving soil health and reducing excessive dependence on chemical fertilizers. Farmers also shared the major agricultural challenges faced in the Kalsi block.

Demonstrations of maize variety LQMH-1 were monitored during the programme. Seeds of this variety had been provided by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research for demonstration purposes.
The event witnessed the participation of 4 officials from the institute and 32 Gram Pradhans (village heads) representing different villages of the Kalsi block.

A total of 79 farmers from Fateau and Ichhla villages participated in the Kisan Gosthi, including 52 male and 27 female farmers.
